Why does Public Sector Transformation remain elusive?
At EightyTwenty Insight, we know that the UK public sector is under pressure as never before. With UK debt levels set to rise to unprecedented levels for peacetime, the need for savings in public service delivery is huge. The role of the public sector has also changed. Over the last 20 years, it has increasingly moved away from direct service delivery to one of service-commissioning. Parts of the public sector are becoming increasingly comfortable and sophisticated in their role as commissioners – notably local government. Others are struggling to change to take on their new role.
The demand is therefore for transformation – delivering more (or the same) with less.
Our approach to transformation in Central Government is to start with the end in mind – the outcomes that you are trying to achieve. We can then help you take a truly organisationally agnostic view of the optimal service delivery model(s) to best deliver those outcomes, combining our knowledge of the market with your knowledge of your capabilities. The answer may be in-house transformation, shared services (including joint ventures) or some form of outsourcing. Or indeed a combination of some or all of these.
Our people have experience of applying this thinking across a range of central government departments, including: DWP and its agencies (for example The Pensions Regulator, Personal Account Delivery Authority), HM Revenue and Customs and Environment Agency.
Recent case studies of our work include The Pensions Regulator, National School of Government and HMRC.
